The unearthing and unpeeling

Unmasking is kind of like a sunburn.

Parts of us that we thought were us - our skin - is flaking off.

Was that me, or was that my mask?

Can I just peel off the layers of the neuro-camouflaging me like a sheet of dead sunburnt cells?

Sadly not - it comes off in pieces. It sometimes hurts. And there are always more layers underneath.

Our unmasking needs to be held gently - to rub the aloe vera in, to allow time to integrate and heal and bring up the layers that are ready to come up.

It’s OK to not know what you need. We are never ‘done’. Just like we are never done shedding our skin, or regenerating and shedding our cells - we are never done unmasking.

We keep discovering and releasing new aspects of ourselves.

We are cyclical, not fixed.

Neurodivergent Mystics is my commitment - as an autistic ADHDer, trauma survivor, and artist - to live the unpeeling in public.

So that we can unshed, evolve and learn from each other, together.

Neurodivergent mystics, (notso) anonymous.

Love - Dee <3
